It’s a unique dish called nurungji (scorched rice) pepper sweet and sour pork. The nurungji is made from glutinous rice, which gives it a denser texture and makes it crunchier. Eating it feels like enjoying crispy scorched rice soup. This dish is exclusive to this place. The pepper adds a spicy flavor. The meat is very thin, as if it’s been heavily pounded with a hammer. As the fried meat tends to lose its crispiness over time, the glutinous rice nurungji replenishes that crispy texture. Nian gao is a signature dish here; it’s large and has a properly seasoned salty taste, making it a great appetizer. Topped on sticky rice, it could create a new dish. Menbosha has a light, savory taste. It’s delicious on its own or dipped in sauce. The bread is thin, reducing the greasiness, and the shrimp inside are plump, offering a full texture. Itโs another great appetizer.
The restaurant opened in 1998 and you can feel its history. It serves as a gathering place for the elderly in Apgujeong. Located between Somang Church and Exit 2 of Apgujeong Station, itโs close to both Exit 2 and Exit 3, just a 5-minute walk away. Nearby, I also recommend the kaisendon restaurant “Gokujyo Oboku Suisan” and the chicken gangjeong restaurant “Wangangjeong.”
